This is the question that my long time Cincinnati friend Pete Blackshaw from Nielsen Buzzmetrics is asking (check out Pete's blog)....The question comes after the much debated topic of "consumer control" at last week ANA where A.G. Lafley P&G boss advised the audience "to let it go", opening brands to consumers and having them drive them...(check out Lafley's speech content here).
I agree with Pete and indeed it starts with Opening Up, or simply "Listening Up" you know how much I believe in this... So maybe the right acronym and message for Marketers should be:
"LOL"... not only because it is fun, but because it shows the way to "Listening, Opening Up and Letting Go"...
By the way, you should also check my friend Max Kalehoof great post last friday on MediaPost, Max is really asking marketers if they are serious about ceding control to consumers...I think Max is right, still marketers should still try to cede SOME control back to people!
By the way, did you notice that the two guys and I quote, Pete and Max are close to consumers and believe as I do to consumer power, marketers maybe you should listen more to people that pay your salaries, no? I realized this a while back and I really mean and understand that Consumer is Boss! I do listen all day through my job...
By the way, this may also explain I really love Max and Pete, great guys, and passionated!
